Mr. Brendan Hurley, President
Brendan Hurley has been a resident of Florida since 1978 when he moved here from Cork,
Ireland. After a brief stint in aerospace at NASA Brendan had his start in the automobile
business selling Chryslers in Merritt Island, Florida. The late 70s and early 80s were not
the best of times for Chrysler Corporation with the threat of bankruptcy and the
government backed loan bailout. The K car and Lee A. Iacocoa salvaged the company and
Brendan did very well selling Aspens, Aries, Omnis, Cordobas, Magnums and all of the other
Chrysler products of the day. He was consistently the top salesman at the dealership (thanks
to good training by Gordon Burby) and eventually became a partner in the company in
the mid 80s. He ran the dealership until 1990 and, after a brief stint as a Pontiac,
Cadillac dealer, bought the DeLand dealership in 1992. The dealership has more than
doubled its sales volume since then and has quadrupled it's service and parts business.
All of this at the same time as becoming one of the leading dealerships in the South East
US in the area of customer satisfaction.
One of Brendan's core beliefs is that you have to have satisfied employees to have
satisfied customers. The staff at Hurley Chrysler Jeep is highly trained, very
motivated and they genuinely enjoy their jobs, so satisfying the customer comes naturally.
It helps when the boss is there every day and involved in every aspect of the dealership.
"You have to be involved in your business with your employees day to day and be
available to your customers to really provide a good service", says Hurley.
"That's what makes us a better place to do business than the chain stores or Mega
used car outlets".
Brendan lives in DeLand and is a big believer in community support. He is a family man
with three young girls to keep him busy at home. His interests include boating, aviation
and computer software.
